The medical science that studies and treats is called Psychiatry. The term was first introduced by German physician Johann Christian Reil in 1808. Psychiatrists can treat many mental illnesses. Psychiatrists work across the world. Psychiatrists help patients to handle depression, treat sleeplessness etc. There are a great many mental illnesses and phobias that need specialist medical aid. Among the common mental illnesses are insomnia, anxiety disorders, panic disorders, abnormally high pressure moods, various personality disorders. ANOREXIA is a common psychological disorder, especially in young females. It begins when a person starves intentionally or eats less to lose weight. Yet, starving leads to a loss of appetite and adverse health problems, for example infertility in women. SCHIZOPHRENIA is another severe mental disorder. Specialists have been studying it for a long time. It is an abnormal perception of reality affecting all five human senses. Bizarre delusions, abnormality in speech, disorganized thinking pattern, paranoia are common behavioral patterns in schizophrenic patients. Schizophrenic people usually suffer from major depressions and anxiety disorders. Schizophrenics have a much shorter lifespan than mentally healthy people. One of the reasons is a high rate of suicides among schizophrenics. Even though it is not hereditary, Schizophrenia tends to affect family members. Alcohol addiction remains a common problem that requires specialist aid. Social problems, for instance unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are often recorded, too. PSYCHIATRY deals with mental disorders brought on chemical imbalances in the brain. The way people think, percept the reality, their beliefs and many other things mould their psyche which may be seriously challenged due to circumstances. A professional through a psychiatric aid and medications try to renew the balance in the brain. It requires a lot of effort and time to recover. Some cases, however, are incurable.
