According to American physicians, nearly 2 of every 3 Americans are overweight. What is more, obesity is the second principal cause of preventable death in the United States. A diet is commonly the first thing that a person will turn to when it comes to losing weight. A diet includes sound alterations in eating habits. Consumption of food high in vitamins and low in fats and sugar is the primary key to losing weight and staying healthy. The well-balanced diet is opposed to the so-called fad diets that promise great results at a swift rate. Nevertheless, most crash diets are unhealthy, as they mean starvation. The major disadvantage of fad diets is that the body loses a lot of fluids and muscle tissue. These are the two key components that the body requires to burn body fat. If you are on a fad diet, you can see a substantially large weight loss in the beginning. Being deficient in vitamins, protein, fats and carbohydrates, your body gets vulnerable to viruses and bacteria. Furthermore, because the chemical process of changing food into energy is slowed up, it becomes very hard to burn body fat. So, most dieters give up. To lose weight permanently, it is necessary to change your food consumption. The best thing is that there is no need to give up your best-loved "comfort foods" in order to eat right. Instead, substitute ingredients to make foods healthier. Thus, regular sour cream can be replaced by its low-fat version. Eat low-fat ground turkey in place of ground beef in a meat loaf recipe. Fresh fruit or vegetables from home, for example, might look like a healthier bet than foods from a vending machine. If you are eating out, order smaller portions, share large servings or take leftovers home for the following day. Avoid foods that are high in calories and low in vitamins and minerals, including candy, soft drinks, chips and cookies. Note that no smart eating program is efficient without physical exercise. Thirty minutes of walking, at least five times a week, can benefit you immensely.
